Serendipity Movie Locations

Serendipity is one of the most romantic movies ever made, and it was filmed entirely in New York. Following a brief summary of the film’s plot, this article will introduce you to the major Serendipity Movie Locations.

Serendipity – Movie Plot

Sara Thomas (Kate Beckinsale) and Jonathan Trager (John Cusack) met in New York while shopping for gloves.

Both were shopping for their significant others. However, the magic was in the air, and a night of Christmas shopping turned into a night of romance.

Jon wanted to look into things further, but Sara wasn’t too sure their love was meant to be. They decided to test fate by splitting up and seeing if fate would bring them back together.

Both of them are now marrying their current lovers.

Regardless, neither of them can shake the desire to give fate one more chance to bring them together. Jon enlists his best friend’s help in finding the girl he can’t stop thinking about. They start their research at the store where they met.

Sara requests a break from her new age musician fiancé before the wedding and, accompanied by her best friend, flies from California to New York in the hopes of reuniting with her soulmate.

Serendipity – Best movie locations

Bloomingdale’s

This is the location where Sara and Jonathan first meet in the film, while shopping for gloves.

Bloomingdale’s is a well-known department store located in Midtown Manhattan, close to Central Park and the Roosevelt Island Tramway.

Bloomingdale’s is also well-known for its spectacular Christmas Windows during the Holiday Season. If you are planning a trip to New York in December, make sure to include a stop at this location.

Serendipity III

Another key Serendipity Movie Location is the place where Sara and Jonathan order the restaurant’s famous Frozen Hot Chocolate. Since the film’s release, the table where they sit has been dubbed the Star Table at the restaurant.

Serendipity 3, also known as Serendipity III, is a popular restaurant on Manhattan’s Upper East Side that was founded in 1954 by Stephen Bruce. While the restaurant is famous for its foot-long hot dogs and frozen drinks, especially its trademark “Frozen Hot Chocolate,” it also serves a full menu.

The restaurant has long been a favorite of Manhattanites, tourists, and celebrities. The gift shop is well-known for its quirky novelty items.

Serendipity was named after the three legendary princes of Serendip (now Sri Lanka), from which the 18th century writer Sir Horace Walpole coined the term.

Serendipity has been popular since its inception. Marilyn Monroe was a frequent patron, Andy Warhol was a regular before he was famous, and First Lady Jackie was a frequent visitor who once tried to buy the recipe for the Frrrozen Hot Chocolate for an event she was throwing.

Stephen Bruce refused to give her the recipe, but he did offer to come to her party and make the frozen drink himself. The recipe is now available in Sweet Serendipity, a cookbook of recipes and history sold in the restaurant’s general store.

The restaurant is few steps away from the Roosevelt Island Tramway. We highly suggest you to visit this place before or after having taken the Cable Car. This is one of the 5 best free things to do in NYC.

If you are coming in Spring, Roosevelt Island is one of the Best Places to see the Cherry Blossoms in NYC.
