The NYC Skyline from Long Island City

It is necessary to leave Manhattan in order to appreciate the beauty of the NYC skyline and LONG ISLAND CITY is the place to go for an incredible view.

We’ve written about it several times (and we’ve even created a TOUR specifically for it): the skyline of New York City is unbeatable, and there are a few spots we highly recommend you visit during your NYC trip, combining views of the city during the day, at sunset, and at night.

Fortunately, admiring the New York City skyline is completely free. More tips and suggestions can be found in the dedicated section of our BLOG (FREE THINGS TO DO IN NYC).

One of our favorite locations among these is undoubtedly Long Island City, from which you can enjoy spectacular views of the Midtown Manhattan skyline.

Key Information about Long Island City

What is the best way to get to Long Island City to see the NYC Skyline

Getting to Long Island City is straightforward: all you have to do is take the subway line 7 from Grand Central Terminal and exit at the first stop, Vernon Blvd – Jackson Avenue, to be in the neighborhood.

You will be right in front of the Skyline once you exit the subway and walk for approximately 5 minutes in the direction of the water.

If you require assistance in using the SUBWAY, we recommend that you read the following three articles from our blog:

I’m wondering which skyscrapers and landmarks of the NYC skyline I’ll be able to see from Long Island City.

You will have before of your eyes the Skyline of Midtown Manhattan. This means that you will have a clear view of the EMPIRE STATE BUILDING, the CHRYSLER BUILDING, the United Nations Building, the One Vanderbilt & the Summit (one of the five New York City OBSERVATION DECKS), and many other landmarks in front of you.

Is it safe to travel to Long Island City to enjoy the views of the NYC skyline?

Yes, that is correct. Long Island City is located on the other side of the East River from Manhattan and is home to thousands of people who commute to work in Manhattan each day. From Grand Central Terminal to Long Island City, the subway line number 7 has been deemed safe.
